Schedule Database Backup

Hi

I currently do a manual backup 3 times a week for our 8.1 database. I have not thus far found a tool within DOORS to "schedule" an automated backup.

Am I missing it?
Basically, am looking on some guidance for how to schedule an automated, scheduled backup to a specific location on the network.

We are currently running the database on a Windows XP box on the network, and it is up to me to do the regular backups of the db from within it.

At some point this year we have plans to upgrade to 9.x on a VMWare server (finally). How would the automated backup change for that integration?

Thank In Advance

Hi,

No tool inside DOORS

i do an scheduled backup each night.
It is easy :
  • use Windows scheduled task
  • and batch file :
net stop "DOORS DB Server 8.1"
copy "path and name of yout DOORS DataBase" "path of your backup"
net start "DOORS DB Server 8.1"

On 9.1 this work same with "DOORS DB Server 9.1"

I have attached an IBM TechNote which has some recommendations about backing up a DOORS DB - it won't give you all the answers you need but it does have some important points about what type of backup should be done.

Hello,

after stop of Windows service (net stop ...), you can copy the directory of DOORS data base to any other place. it is just copy of a directory.

You can use a tool, or more basic, xcopy.

see : http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/xcopy.mspx?mfr=true
